#47 In conversation with Erika Cramer, The Queen of Confidence

I have an amazing episode for you today and I’m so excited to introduce to you my guest, Erika Cramer, AKA The Queen of Confidence. With her global Sistahood program, Erika is all about empowering women to stand in their confidence and she is a woman whom I greatly admire. She is not only an amazing businesswoman, she is a standout human being who talks the talk and walks the walk.

In this episode, I chat with Erika about doing the inner work on a personal level and how this has a direct impact on the life of your business. I can certainly testify to this with my experience as I have been honing in on my own life. The upleveling in my business has been incredible.

We talk about prioritising ourselves, how it’s not selfish and why so many women feel guilty for taking time to focus on themselves. It really isn’t selfish though. When you deal with the things in your life, you become a better person and are therefore able to make a better impact in the world.

Erika shares some simple steps to take to get started and I cannot recommend her book, Confidence Feels Like Shit enough. Make sure you get yourself a copy.

TOPICS DISCUSSED AND WHERE TO FIND THEM:

[2:00]: I was faced with so much negativity from the legal profession when I started my business because of the way I wanted to do things differently. It all comes down to confidence.

[3:20]: Doing personal work has a direct impact on your business. When you haven’t dealt with the big things in your own life, it spirals into your business in lack.

[5:00]: We’ve been taught to compartmentalise ourselves through our experiences. How you were raised as a child impacts your everyday life as an adult, whether you like to admit it or not.

[7:20]: As a woman in a male driven industry, I used to feel like I had to be hard and not show emotion. It comes down to permission and a lot of women in business struggle with this.

[9:00]: A lot of women feel guilty for prioritising themselves but if you’re out of touch with yourselves, you can’t expect other people to be in touch with you.

[11:30]: I’ve recently joined the Sistahood and want to acknowledge that I have stuff to deal with but it’s not a weakness. It will help me show up in my business on a different level.

[12:30]: It’s not necessarily about having a traumatic childhood. Anything disruptive as a kid messes with you and impacts you as an adult.

[13:50]: If you don’t deal with the beliefs from your younger self, they stay there and cause you to make decisions according to those things.

[15:20]: Since I’ve owned my stuff, the up leveling in my business has been amazing.

[16:00]: A simple thing to do is ask yourself, why am I not doing the thing that I want to do? Close your eyes and write it out on paper so you can uncover the underlying fears. Self enquiry is so important.

[17:50]: When you know what’s going on, you can work on it. Read Erika’s book, Confidence Feels Like Shit.

[18:45]: There is nothing wrong with you. It’s just that we create a mask or behaviour because of what you’ve experienced. When we work on ourselves in any area of our lives, we become better and help to change the world. It’s not selfish to work on yourself.

[21:10]: Erika’s best business advice was to know who she helps and what problem she is solving.

[22:00]: The worst business advice was don’t leave money on the table.

[22:40]: Erika’s advice to her younger self was to build and nurture an email list.
