What legal documents does my business need?

Unfortunately, there’s no one size fits all answer to this question. It will depend on your business structure, the way you sell your services/products, and what stage of business you’re currently in.

In this episode, I explore the different legal documents you’ll need in the different phases of your business. I’ll talk about service-based and e-commerce businesses, and share the core documents you absolutely MUST have in your business to be covered.

It’s very important that these documents are updated regularly to include any new service offerings and any amendments to current services. We’ll go over employee contracts, written agreements for outsourcing and terms and conditions for your business and website.

After listening, download my free Annual Legal Checklist to know which documents need to be updated and covered so you can breathe a sigh of relief in your business.

TOPICS DISCUSSED AND WHERE TO FIND THEM:

[0:48]: If you’re a service-based business, the 3 core documents you need are your business terms and conditions (the rules that govern the relationship with your client), website terms and conditions, and your privacy policy.

[2:02]: When you reach your 2nd year of business and your needs are changing, you will need to revise your business terms and conditions to make sure they’re up to date. If you’re outsourcing work in your business, you must have a written agreement.

[3:02]: If you bring in employees, you must have an employment agreement.

[3:40]: Download my free Annual Legal Checklist to know what needs to be updated and covered in your business.

[4:43]: When the services in your business expand (eg. memberships), you need updated website terms and conditions that are fleshed out and comprehensive to include any new changes.

[5:57]: If you’re an e-commerce business, you need tailored terms and conditions on your website that comply with all of your obligations under consumer law from day 1.

[7:26]: Remember, if you bring additional people into your team, you must have a tailored written agreement from the beginning.
