I’m chatting today with my friend, client, and talented Interior Stylist, Kylie Tyrrell from Gold Chalk Styling. There is a real synergy between Kylie and myself in our approach to business as we both place a real focus on educating and empowering other female business owners.

In addition to making interior spaces look and feel amazing, Kylie runs a mentorship program to support other women in the industry to build their own businesses. In this episode, Kylie shares about the work she does with her mentees and how a large portion of the time is focused on mindset. We talk about how fear is the number one thing that holds women back, and the wonderful support that a group such as hers offers to the women involved.

Kylie and I talk about our experience collaborating together to tailor her a beautiful set of legal documents, and how she is now teaching her mentees the importance of doing the same. Kylie shares the best and worst business advice she has received and also her advice to her younger self now that she has a few more years of experience up her sleeve.

TOPICS DISCUSSED AND WHERE TO FIND THEM:

[2:40]: During the first covid lockdown, Kylie felt it was time to start her mentoring program. A lot of her mentees reach out to me to do their legals.

[3:50]: The group is really beautiful and there is a real exchange of trust. Kylie is able to pass on the details of the people she works with and the group is eager to learn.

[5:20]: Fear is the number one thing that holds women back from taking the plunge. It’s compounded by the expectations we put on ourselves and worry of what others will think.

[6:30]: A lot of the program is working on mindset and it’s an ongoing journey. The support offered in the group gives people the help to keep going.

[8:30]: We’re all going to fail and make mistakes. Just keep going. Knowing that you’re not the only one is such a feel good experience.

[9:50]: Most people find it scary to navigate legal requirements but it can be really empowering. Kylie has been talking to her group about making sure they tailor their legals instead of copying and pasting.

[11:30]: When we know better, we do better. That’s why we are both working to educate and empower other women.

[12:15]: Kylie’s next mentoring program starts on October 11 and where to find Kylie

[13:35]: The best business advice Kylie has received: Don’t give up. If you’re passionate, you will get it.

[14:15]: The worst business advice Kylie has received: As women, you can have it all and do it all. Kylie has found the balancing act really tricky and that the balance is never right.

[15:10]: Kylie’s advice to her younger self: There’s more than one way to skin a cat. Don’t be stuck if the first way doesn’t get you there. You’ll get there.
